I don't know if you have seem Miguel trying to do kani basami (scissor sweep), but it's a difficult throw that's for showy display purposes. It's not something that I'd recommend in actual sparring unless you're very good - and, um, Steve isn't (I wouldn't try it either). We were playing one person in the middle of the mat with a line of people to attack one after another. The person in the middle had to keep their feet for about 30 seconds and the person attacking had to take them to the floor. When Steve attacked me it was pretty cool, we weren't allowed to kick/punch so I spent most of the time stopping him from clinching.I don't know if he can even breakfall out of normal throws, but he certainly doesn't have the conditioning for nasty ones (I can take fairly heavy impacts to my rib cage, but I've taken over a year building up to that and even then some over the dan grades at jitsu could break me. Plus, I'm twenty, and we've been joking for years about how he looks like we could break him.)There's a good example of the throw towards the end of this clip. He got one leg behind my knees and one in front of my hips and because I didn't fall he just dropped straight down and his ribs took the impact. He partially took my balance, so I continued the motion and dropped my knees onto him - it wouldn't have been far because he was on his side, not his front - he was on the floor and I controlled his upper body so I won. He got up and walked off and I went on to the next person. It's quite interesting how different injuries kick-in really. When Dave broke his ribs the summer before last, he dropped instantly. Steve was sitting down holding his side and looking winded by the time I'd finished, but it wasn't until Ben checked on him and then called Miguel over, that he was lying down and groaning. He might have broken his ribs with the impact and then I provided just enough force to puncture his lung, or he might have done the whole thing himself (or I just realised that if the broken ribs are on the side that didn't make contact with the floor, I might have done the whole thing - unlikely though, as I don't think I have the weight to do it from that short a distance). Anyway, I feel slightly guilty, but it's more that I feel bad about not feeling bad. Probably doesn't help that I don't like him, or the way he tries to prove the superiority of his style, and that he had only turned up for the first time in six months to hand out leaflets for his 'Sissy' Factor competition. In the end, I think what Tom did to Dave was worse, he hooked into his ribs hard enough to crack a couple. Complete accident, but that was lack of control; whereas Alex, Ben and I are rougher than that with each other on a weekly basis (they both have bruises from being bitten at the moment. Hee.)
